Motivational factors in a push‐pull theory of entrepreneurship
There are many economic, social and physical reasons why people emigrate and they can usually be classified into push and pull factors. Economic motives loom large in all human movements, but are particularly important with regards to migration. This lack of economic opportunity tends to push people to look for their futures outside the area of their origin. An example of this is the migration of Mexicans and people from other Central American countries into the US, where they often work low-wage, long-hour jobs in farming, construction and domestic labour. Forced migration has also been used for economic gain, such as the 20 million men, women and children who were forcibly carried as slaves to the Americas between the 16th and 18th centuries. For example the US attracted religious refugees, such as the Mennonites, who settled in Pennsylvania.

The present study explored the motivation of rural-urban migrants who moved from the Himalaya foothills of Uttarakhand to its capital city, Dehradun. A survey of migrant families reported their socio-economic profile before and after migration, personal and general reasons for migration, problems in the village and in the city, and perception of push- and pull factors. This was contextualised by reported large scale changes in forest cover. Major reasons for migration mentioned in this study were education, employment opportunities with the associated income, and facilities.
In geographical terms , the push-pull factors are those that drive people away from a place and draw people to a new location. A combination of push-pull factors helps determine migration or immigration of particular populations from one land to another. Push factors are often forceful, demanding that a certain person or group of people leave one country for another, or at least giving that person or people strong reasons to want to move—either because of a threat of violence or the loss of financial security. Pull factors, on the other hand, are often the positive aspects of a different country that encourage people to immigrate in order to seek a better life.
The purpose of this paper is to review motivational factors driving migration return by assessing both push and pull factors that influence return intentions.

To date, research has focused on the factors motivating men and women separately. This paper aims to contribute by applying the existing theory on push and pull factors; and using a gender comparative approach to explore the nature of potential gender differences within entrepreneurial motivations. Findings suggest that both women and men appeared similarly motivated by a combination of push and pull factors. Three gender differences were found in the incidence of motivations: women were more influenced by a desire for independence; women considered their children as motivators more so than did men; men were influenced more by job dissatisfaction than were women. The discussion focuses on analysing the nature of gender differences rather than merely their incidence.

Если твоя проверка выявила нечто необычное, то лишь потому, что это сделали мы. А теперь, если не возражаешь… - Стратмор не договорил, но Чатрукьян понял его без слов.
The reasons that people migrate are determined by push and pull factors, which are forces that either induce people to move to a new location, or oblige them to.
