A HOLY SEASON
Ash Wednesday Services

This Wednesday, February 22, we begin the forty-day journey of Lent. Ashes will be imposed at 7:30, noon and 5:30 p.m. services.
What are you taking on your Lenten journey? All ages can follow and learn about the saints in Lent Madness: Who Will Win the Golden Halo? Perhaps personal devotional study is more your style. The sisters and friends of The Episcopal Community have put together a Lent Devotional and Meditation booklet. You can print it out, or download it to your smart phone or tablet to keep with you. And, don't forget to invite others: Bring them to Gumbo, or just bring them gumbo and invite them to St. James!
IT'S NEARLY GUMBO TIME!
Print One, Post One Challenge
Our Lenten Friday lunches begin next Friday!. Co-chairs Trudy Ivy and Jennie Price ask that you print one copy of the Gumbo menu flyer and POST IT at your office, at school, at the club house -- where ever you can (with permission!) share the invitation to Gumbo. Click here for a letter-size PDF version, or here for a JPG version you can copy-and-paste into an email to share that way.
STUDY BENEDICTINE SPIRITUALITY
Sunday Evening Series during Lent
On four Sundays in Lent — March 4, 11,18, and 25 — the Center for Spiritual Formation will offer a discussion of Benedictine spirituality. The group will read Heart Whispers: Benedictine Wisdom for Today by Elizabeth J. Canham. By exploring such topics as prayer, hospitality, manual labor, rest, and stability, Canham guides readers to cope with the stresses and complexities of their personal and professional lives by establishing a daily rhythm based on Benedictine practices. The group will meet in the parlor on Sunday afternoons at 5:45 p.m., following the 5:00 service. Ann Holmes will facilitate the discussion.
SATURDAY, MARCH 10 IN THE PARISH HALL PARLOR
Be Smart about your Smartphone

Senior Adults appreciate the usefulness of smart and iPhones, but are not beginning to be able to use them to full advantage! Our Youth and Young Adults have these skills, and will share (one on one) with Senior Adults (or other adults at St James and in the BR community) at this "starter" session, where there is no charge.
Starting with coffee and doughnuts at 9:30 a.m., learning sessions will be held from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10.
Learn how to:
a. Set up your address book including numbers frequently called plus needed emergency numbers including your ICE numbers.
b. Leave a message on your phone when you are not able to answer, and how to pull up and respond to missed calls.
c. Text - reading text messages, and if you want to text yourself, how to use a stylus to aid in the process.
d. Practice cell phone safety and how to manage your phone while driving.
e. Find a misplaced phone and what to do if your phone is really lost. |
