Richard Burford has transferred his letter from Christ Church in New Haven, Connecticut to St. James.

Amelia Harrison O'Reilly comes to us from Christ Church, Covington, Louisiana.

EfM LogoThe Rev. Mary Ann Garrett and Ann Holmes, Ph.D. will be leading an EfM group this fall, to be held on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m., beginning on August 26. Please contact either of them for more information at the links above, or visit them at the Ministries Fair on Sunday, August 23.

Nursery Worker Openings

The St. James nursery is staffed with skilled, loving caregivers, trained in child safety and CPR techniques.

Open four hours each Sunday morning, and occasional weekday evenings, we currently have openings in this paid position. We will sponsor child safety and CPR training for the right person. This is a great gig for college students.

If you, or someone you know would be who you'd want caring for your own child, please have them call or email Mary Boutwell for more information and to arrange an interview, at 225-387-5141 ext. 229.

Director of Youth Ministry Marvin McLennon says, "Look for the start of EYC in early September, AND we're looking at something new and exciting for youngsters in grades three through five!"

The Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

Jesus told them, "Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me." The original "Come to Jesus" meeting! This Sunday will be Prior John Pitzer's last with us before he heads to Austin for a year of work at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest as he follows what he has heard and discerned in his own life of particular "Come to Jesus" meetings as his future path in the Church. Our prayers go with you, Prior John, and we hope to hear from you, often.

7:30 a.m. - Rite I service in the church.

9:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II in the church, with organ and cantors.

9:00 a.m. - As You Are Service in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles with the As You Are musicians

10:00 a.m. Enjoy coffee and fellowship in the Parish Hall parlor, or a special presentation on "Music in the Liturgy" in the church with René Singleton and Herndon Spillman.

11:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II in the church, with organ, cantors and choir.

5:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist, Rite II in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles.

Centering Prayer at 6:00 p.m. in the CSF Suite on the third floor of the Ministries Center.

Special Presentation Sunday, August 9:

In Our Music God is Glorified - an Episcopalian's answer, short and sweet, to the questions about Why, What, and When We Sing. Please join choir singer René Singleton and organist Herndon Spillman in the church at 10:00 a.m. for an inspiring and engaging experience in sacred song.

Casual Choir Month! You are invited to come sit in the choir stalls during August. The choir will not be robed in August, and you may just find you like the view from there, your pew neighbors, and decide to join the choir on a long-term basis. The St. James Choir welcomes you!

Day School Opens Wednesday

Mom-to-Mom meeting August 20


School is back in session, routines are put in place, and the Mom-to-Mom group will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, with nursery care courtesy of the St. James ECW. Please reserve a nursery spot with Mary Boutwell; contact Amy Longfield for more information about the Mom-to-Mom group.

Special thanks to St. James Episcopal Church for cost-sharing this training course for our ministry and important to all moms, and to the ECW for providing snacks and the nursery.

All the ministries of St. James Episcopal Church will be on exhibit in Bishops Hall following a combined service at 10:30. Find your connection -- to ministry, to others, to service, to the community!

Registration for Happening #75 is Now Open

Friday, August 28 - Sunday, August 30

Happening is a youth-led spiritual formation weekend designed for high school teens. It is an amazing experience that changes the way you think about yourself and your faith.

Happening is open to 9th through 12th grade teenagers of any denomination who have not participated in Happening in the past. If you have participated in Happening and would like to serve on staff, you can email Marvin McLennon. You need not be Episcopalian to attend, however you must be committed to engage in theological reflection from a Christian perspective. 

Happening #75 will be held August 28 - 30, 2015 at the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center in Loranger, Louisiana. Registration deadline is Friday, August 21. Cost is $150. Scholarship assistance is available. For more information, please contact Marvin McLennon, Diocesan Youth Coordinator.
