"Walking the Way of St. James has changed little over the centuries. The gear still includes a cloak, a floppy hat, a walking stick, a gourd for drinking from wells, and a scallop shell, symbolizing where you're going," says one guide book. The Way of Jesus has changed none at all over the centuries: "...the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for man."

We Care Summer Volunteers

Morgan Stanley Volunteers
Lori Weems and Tesse Gautreaux, volunteers from Morgan Stanley

For the second year our Morgan Stanley neighbors in City Plaza have selected We Care as a summer outreach program. Teams of two Morgan Stanley employees are coordinated by Sara Lackey, who then spend their time packing We Care bags in the Ministries Center at St. James.

Each bag contains a balanced variety of six non-perishable food items plus a bottle of water and a prayer card, and approximately 200 bags are distributed weekly. The rules are simple: One meal per day to persons walking or on a bicycle, not using their cell phone, and accepted graciously. As founder Warren Green reminds us, "A sack lunch may not save the world, but it nourishes the mind and body for a day."

The We Care Ministry is not a part of the church annual budget. Each meal costs $2.00. Your support of this signature ministry of St. James is greatly appreciated. You can donate online, here, choosing "We Care Ministry" from the fund listing. If you or your group would like to donate some time bagging our meals, please contact Carole & Phillip Wright.
