Dear Members of the St. James Day School Community,
I wanted you to be among the very first to know some exciting news. I am honored to inform you that this morning U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that St. James Episcopal Day School has been named a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School.
As many of you know, this is our second Blue Ribbon award. It is a tremendous honor to be named a Blue Ribbon School twice within six years, as schools, both public and non-public, may be nominated for the award only once within any five-year period.
To select National Blue Ribbon Schools, the U.S. Department of Education requested nominations from the top education official in every state, and the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) was invited to nominate independent schools that met the criteria for recognition. CAPE nominated only fifty schools, nationally.
St. James Episcopal Day School was recognized as an "exemplary high performing" school, a category in which schools are recognized among their state's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests. Our students have consistently scored in the top 10% of the nation's schools in reading and math. A particular noteworthy achievement is that for the last five years, we have not only exceeded national norms, but those of other independent schools, as well.
The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of our students, educators, families, and community in creating a safe and welcoming school committed to small class sizes and small group instruction where students can master challenging content. Thank you for all you have done to make St. James a Blue Ribbon school.
