December 2: The First Sunday of Advent

Sunday's Service Schedule
  • 8:00 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite I, in the church
  • 9:15 a.m. - Advent Wreath Making in Bishops Hall for all ages
  • 10:30 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite II in the church
  • 5:00 p.m. - Advent Lessons & Carols, in the church

Nursery Hours: Our professionally-staffed nursery is open Sunday mornings from 8:45 a.m. 'til noon, for infants of six-weeks to children four years old as parents desire and are in worship and fellowship. The nursery is located directly off the Parish Hall foyer. Your infants and young children are always welcome in church.


Everyone is invited to Bishops Hall for Advent Wreath making at 9:15 a.m. this Sunday, December 2.


Be sure to pick up an Advent devotional start-off booklet to use with your Advent Wreath, and the Advent/Christmas big-sheet calendar to put on the 'fridge!


Classes for children and adults resume December 9. Children's Chapel will meet this Sunday, as scheduled, during the 10:30 service.

Open meetings of AA are held each weekday at noon in the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center

Bad Girls Book Club is reading The Horse Dancer by Jojo Moyes, and the meeting is Monday, December 3 at 6:00 p.m. For January 21, 2019, we'll be reading The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. We meet at LaMadeleine's on Jefferson at Old Hammond Hwy. RSVP by email to Monica Murphy, or text her at 225-335-3572.

James Gang Event


The James Gang is heading to Lafayette!


We'll travel by luxury motorcoach to the Hilliard Museum at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to view current exhibist, including the architecture of A. Hays Town, and the inaugural venue for Salvador Dali's Stairway to Heaven exhibition! After the museum, we'll have lunch at a local eatery, then return home. The fee of $35 covers transportation and museum admission; lunch is on your own.

Christmas Feast at St. James


Please consider making a cash donation to help with the cost of this heartwarming ministry, or plan to volunteer - opportunities listed below! Checks can be mailed to the church office with the memo – Gift Bags for Christmas Feast - or, choose one of our easy ways to cover costs for one gift bag:

  • Give online through our website. Please put Gift Bags for Xmas in the memo box
  • December 2-7 - Collect fruit for table decorations and gifting and deliver to the Ministries Center foyer.
  • Friday, December 7 at 11:30 a.m. - Be part of the team filling gift bags in Bishops Hall foyer.
  • Saturday, December 8 at 10:30 a.m. – We'll be decorating tables in Bishops Hall for the dinner, creating a holiday atmosphere.
  • Sunday, December 9 at 11:40 a.m. – It's Feast Day at St. James – A Christmas Dinner for the Homeless – Volunteers report at 11:40 and the event will be over about 1:30 p.m

Congratulations …


… to Allison and Charlie Provenza on the birth of James William Provenza on Friday, November 9, weighing in at 8 lbs., 9 oz. Proud, new big brother is Thomas.


…to the St. James We Care ministry and the volunteers involved providing sack lunches from the Ministries Center front door to the needy in our area, which received a $3,000 grant from the diocesan Community Mission Appeal. Read more, here.

Holiday All-Nighter

All sixth through twelfth graders are invited to kick off their holiday break with a jam-packed celebration experience! (If you still have classes or exams, join in for part of the evening.)

The Holiday All-Nighter will include caroling to parishioners who need a cheery visit, dinner, Laser Tag, late night beignets, and sleepover at the church. Drop off is in the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. Pick-up is Friday morning by 9:30 a.m.

Cost for the evening is $20, and friends are invited. All must register with Mrs. Annie by Tuesday, December 18.

Adults, we will need drivers/chaperones in shifts. Contact Annie to claim your shift choice!

When registering, include all names and ages for the evening, and whether staying for part or all of the night. Don't forget the required registration and permission forms!
