Sunday's Service Schedule
  • 8:00 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite I, in the church
  • 9:15 a.m. - Fellowship over coffee and refreshments in the Parish Hall parlor.
  • 10:30 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite II, in the church
  • 5:00 p.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite II, in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles.
Search Committee Now Accepting Nominations

The Search Committee is working on the Parish Profile to be provided potential rector candidates with a completion goal in January 2018, and is now accepting parishioner nominations for candidates to be considered for the position of rector of St. James Episcopal Church. Sunday Education & Events

Nursery: Our professionally-staffed nursery is open this Sundays between 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. for infants of six-weeks to children four years old as parents desire and are in worship and fellowship. The nursery is located directly off the Parish Hall foyer. Your infants and young children are always welcome in church.

Church Calendar Link

Morning Prayer with the Day School resumes Monday at 8:15 a.m. This service is held all Monday mornings school is in session and all are welcome.


Open meetings of AA are held weekdays at noon in the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center.


Wednesdays at noon: A service of Holy Eucharist with opportunity for healing prayers is held each week in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles. This quiet, mid-week service lasts about thirty minutes.


Yoga changes in 2018: Monday yoga is no longer offered, but Margaret Culbertson is adding a third Wednesday to her schedule - teaching on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays in January at 9:30 a.m.  Anyone who wishes to attend should RSVP to by noon on Tuesday (January 9) before the class on Wednesday, January 10, so attendance/potential conflicts can be determined.


Next weekend is the Louisiana Marathon. Check here, or in next Friday's eMessenger, for route information so you can plan your trip to church with minimal disruption.


The Bad Girls Book Club January meeting will be on Monday, January 15 and the selection is The Bone Lady by Mary Manhein, world renowned forensic anthropologist, and we are very excited to announce that Ms. Manhein will be joining us for the evening to discuss her book! We meet at La Madeleine's on Jefferson at Old Hammond Hwy. Let Monica Murphy know you'll be attending via email, or text to 225-335-3572. The book selection for February 12 is Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf.


Emotional Sobriety: A weekend retreat for women who are or want to be in recovery is at the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center, January 19-21. More information here.

Children's Council


The St. James Children's Council invites you to reserve two dates on your calendar:


Date: Saturday, February 24

What: Winter Hop

DJ for dancing, hamburgers and hot dogs by the Holy Grillers, activities for the children. Nursery will be open. Space is limited so reply immediately!


Date: June 11-15, 2018

Time: 9:00 a.m. - noon

What: Vacation Church School

Hannah's Highlights

THIS SUNDAY, January 7: Confirmation Information meeting at 10:00 a.m. in the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center. Youth interested in May 2018 confirmation at the bishop's visit, along with their parents/adults, should plan to attend for class schedule, requirements, and additional information.


Next Sunday, January 14: EYCers in grades 6-8 meet in the EYC Room, first floor of the Ministries Center, 6:00-7:30 p.m.


ICE SKATING & BEIGNETS on Saturday, January 20 - After a cool evening at Leo's Iceland, we'll warm up at Coffee Call. Meet at St. James at 6:00 p.m., and we'll be back by 9:00 p.m. R.s.v.p. to Hannah, here.

HELP WANTED: We are now hiring church sextons to assist at funerals, weddings, and special events. Duties include preparing our church home to receive visitors by freshening the bathrooms, sweeping the sidewalks, setting out beverages, and brewing coffee.
