Sunday's Service Schedule
 
  • 8:00 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite I, in the church
  • 9:15 a.m. - Christian education for all ages
  • 10:30 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite II in church with organ and choirs.
  • 5:00 p.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite II, in the Chapel of The Twelve Apostles
 
 
Sunday Education & Events
 

Nursery: Our professionally-staffed nursery is open Sundays between 8:45 a.m. and noon for infants of six-weeks to children four years old as parents desire and are in worship and fellowship. The nursery is located directly off the Parish Hall foyer. Your infants and young children are always welcome in church.

 

CHILDREN:

  • Children's Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. and Children's Church (during the 10:30 services) - Children gather on the second floor of the Parish Hall for Sunday School at 9:15 a.m., and at the back of the church during the sequence hymn (just before the Gospel reading) for a brief lesson and activity in Children's Church, before returning to their families in time for communion.

 

YOUTH:

  • Young people in grades six through twelve gather in the Youth Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center at 9:15 a.m. Breakfast provided!

 

ADULT classes at 9:15 Sunday mornings:

  • “A Dose of Daily Scripture: Reflection and Discussion of the Sunday Readings,” gathers in the reception area of the Kids' Orchestra offices on the third floor of the Ministries Center. The Rev. John M. Pitzer will kick off the fall series until the return and addition of Fr. Ralph Howe, along with lay leaders, to read and discuss the Sunday readings from the lectionary.

  • Fr. Joe Reynolds continues his series, Pure Grace: The Application of 12-Step Principles to Life, based on his own manuscript, in the CSF Atrium on the third floor of the Ministries Center.

Church Calendar Link

Friday morning Eucharist with the Day School is at 8:15 a.m., in the church. All are welcome.

 

Open meetings of AA are held every weekday at noon in the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center.

 

The Bad Girls Book Club selection for October is One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus, and the meeting is Monday, October 23 at 6:00 p.m. at La Madeleine's on Jefferson at Old Hammond Hwy. Let Monica Murphy know you'll be attending via email, or text to 225-335-3572.

 

Reformation: 500 Years Later is a special presentation by the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge, at St. George Catholic Church, on Tueday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. Read more, here.

 

Meditative Yoga is Wednesday, October 25 at 9:30 a.m. These free classes are held on the first and second Mondays of each month, 11:00-12:30; and, on the third and fourth Wednesdays from 9:30-11:00 a.m., in the CSF Atrium on the third floor of the Ministries Center. The gentle poses used are accessible to most and everyone is invited to attend.

 

Wednesdays at noon: A service of Holy Eucharist with opportunity for healing prayers is held each week in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles. This quiet, mid-week service lasts about thirty minutes.

 

The people of St. Margaret's, Baton Rouge invite you to celebrate with them, a new ministry with the Rev. Tommy Dillon as rector, on Wednesday, October 26 at 6:00 p.m. Read more, here.

 

The Chancel Choir rehearses at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings in the Choir Room on the second floor of the Parish Hall. All adult singers are invited -- new members are always welcome!

Altar Guild members throughout the diocese are invited to the Diocesan Altar Guild Fall Workshop, on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 1101 Belle Alliance Drive in LaPlace. The topic of this workshop is "Your Altar Guild." Please, bring a dish to share for our Pot Luck Lunch.Schedule: 10:00 - 10:30, registration; 10:30 - 11:30, Eucharist; 11:30 - 12:30, workshop; 12:30 - 1:30, pot luck lunch; and, 1:30 - 2:00, business meeting. Called to Leadership?

Please help us identify parishioners for leadership positions on Associate Vestry and Vestry.

 

The Vestry Nominating Committee has begun deliberations in developing the 2018 slate of vestry candidates. Read about the vestry requirements and submit your suggestions, here. Deadline for submissions is November 6.

 

The Associate Vestry is seeking nominations for new members who commit to serving for three years. If you would like to nominate someone or are interested yourself, please email AV president John Soule. The mission of the Associate Vestry is to build and strengthen our Christian community through hospitality. The group meets once per month and plans several major fellowship events over the course of the year including the Pancake Breakfast, the Crawfish Boil, and the Fall Hospitality Party.

180th Diocesan Convention
 

We will be hosting the 180th Convention of the Diocese of Louisiana at St. James on Friday and Saturday, November 3 and 4, 2017 and many volunteers will be needed to help with registration, greeting and offering welcome to visitors, campus directions, and more.

 

Denise Allen is leading our planning committee and is asking for volunteers to assist before and during the convention. Email Denise, letting her know which or both days you're available (or maybe behind the scenes), and how you'd like to help.

Sunday, October 22: Sunday School at 9:15 - meet in EYC Room and we'll walk to PJ's downtown for coffee and conversation

Sunday, October 22: Movie Night at St. James, with dinner, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friends invited!

Saturday, October 28: Halloween Parade Party, 2:00-8:00 p.m. We'll watch the downtown parade, have dinner. Costume, if you'd like! Please bring a snack to share. This event open to sixth-12th grades; friends welcome. RSVP by October 25.

 

Sunday, October 29: We'll help greet and serve parishioners and guests at the Hearty Breakfast in Bishops Hall, 8:00-9:00 a.m.

 

Confirmation Informational Meeting: Sunday, November 5 following the 10:30 a.m. service, in the church. Young people interested in being confirmed at Bishop Thompson's May 2018 visit, and their parent(s), should attend. We will be scheduling an eight (8)-class confirmation series in the spring.
