Today and tomorrow at St. Aug's in Metairie:
ECW Convention Graphic

The Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Louisiana will hold the 130th ECW Annual Gathering at St. Augustine's, Metairie, June 2-3, 2017. The theme this year is: "ECW - Embrace the Community and World." The Scripture focus comes from the Gospel of Matthew, "I was a stranger and you welcomed me." (Matt. 25:35b) Indeed, all are welcome to join us at the Annual Gathering for Christian fellowship, worship, learning and fun! So, do not be a stranger; embrace and celebrate with us the divine spark that God gives to each of us.

The Rev. William Miller, a popular author and rector of Christ Church, Covington, will be Saturday's keynote speaker. Miller is the author of The Gospel According to Sam and The Beer Drinker's Guide to God. He is a dynamic speaker, innovator, and Jazz enthusiast who recently moved to Louisiana following tenures at churches in the Dioceses of Texas and Hawaii.

St. James Outreach

Grant Application Deadline is June 15

As part of our tithe to the community at large, St. James funds over $60,000 in small grants to area and diocesan charities. Funding is focused on the areas of greatest need—food, medical services, shelter, and education—for the people of greatest need, delivered by the most effective means. Last year, we helped cancer patients, the homeless, low-income school children and more.

Please encourage the charities you know and love to apply. They can find the application on our website.

Summer Sounds 2017

St. James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge will present an exhibition of art created by members of the St. James Artists Guild, in the Parish Hall parlor. The work of these professional artists will be on exhibit throughout of July.

The exhibition will be open every Sunday in July, immediately before and following church services, as well as each Wednesday evening before and after our Summer Sounds at St. James concert series. The exhibition may also be viewed during church office hours (M-Th 8:00-4:00; Fri. 8:00-noon), or by special arrangement made through the church office. The Summer Exhibition has developed a following over its eight-year run.

In addition to pieces by the St. James Artists Guild, space is reserved for pieces by the art students at The One Stop Homeless Center who are being taught by parishioners Elizabeth Whitley and Warren Green. Mostly untrained, the works by these students have proven to be insightful and enjoyable creations.
