Gumbo Menu

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

So, it's not Irish Stew (some would say, "Thank goodness!"), but you'll enjoy a fresh, GREEN salad with your dine-in lunch, or great GREEN cabbage cole slaw in your to-go order, not to mention the GREEN okra in the chicken-and-sausage or shrimp gumbo! And, your spending your GREEN on St. James Gumbo benefits many outreach programs sponsored by the St. James Episcopal Church Women. And, that's worth some Irish bragging, right there!

** Order your Easter étouffée, this Friday! ** Did you know we accept credit/debit cards this year? **

** Guess how many quarts of gumbo we make and sell for a chance at a prize!**

"The St. James Gumbo is the best in town!" -- Thomas Q-Petersen

Glory and Gumbo
Glory & Gumbo: The Rev. John Moloney Preaching Series at 12:05 p.m. in the church, is timed just right for you to enjoy Gumbo lunch, first, in Bishops Hall, then enjoy the brief (25") period of music and speaker in the church -- or, begin with the word and music, and still have plenty of time to enjoy Gumbo before serving ends at 1:00 p.m.

Gumbo has been a part of St. James for 68 years. For about 20 years, the original Spann brothers, Leo and Delroy, handled dishwashing for Gumbo along with Raymie Edmonds, Bill Stirling, and O.B. Romero. Following in their father’s and uncle’s footsteps, Benny and Bobby Spann have been Gumbo dishwashers for over 15 years and are continuing this duty.

For the past 22 years, Hickey Poirrier has followed in his brother-in-law's, Bill Stirling, footsteps as well. The Dishwashing Team is indispensable! Also on the team for several years, now, are Albert Price and Bill Creveling.

They are all unsung, behind-the-scenes gentlemen volunteers who we cannot do without! You'll probably only notice them if we point them out, like with the red arrows on the photo, above, but we give grateful thanks to Bobby, Benny, Albert, Bill, and all the Ghosts of Gumbos Past!
