Search Committee Now Accepting Nominations

The Search Committee is working on the Parish Profile to be provided potential rector candidates with a completion goal in January 2018, and is now accepting parishioner nominations for candidates to be considered for the position of rector of St. James Episcopal Church. Submit your nomination(s) using the button, below.


Sunday Education & Events

Nursery: Our professionally-staffed nursery is open Sundays between 8:45 a.m. and noon for infants of six-weeks to children four years old as parents desire and are in worship and fellowship. The nursery is located directly off the Parish Hall foyer. Your infants and young children are always welcome in church.



  • Pageant rehearsal is this Sunday, December 17 following the 10:30 service, with pizza lunch. Christmas Eve pageant participant arrival time next Sunday, December 24 is 2:30 p.m.



  • The EYC will be wrapping your Christmas presents in the parlor during Sunday school hour and after the 10:30 service. We will have gift wrap and gift tags to choose from, or you are welcome to bring your own. This outreach is free to the church. The youth will accept donations toward their summer mission trips.


ADULT classes are on holiday break until Sunday, January 21. You can catch up on Pure Grace, with Fr. Joe Reynolds, with class videos here.

Church Calendar Link

The Day School Eucharist is at 8:15 a.m. in the church. All are welcome.


Morning Prayer with the Day School is at 8:15 a.m. on Monday mornings when school is in session. All are welcome.


Open meetings of AA are held weekdays at noon in the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center.


Wednesdays at noon: A service of Holy Eucharist with opportunity for healing prayers is held each week in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles. This quiet, mid-week service lasts about thirty minutes.


A New Year's Eve - Fifth Sunday - Hearty Breakfast! Mark your calendar, now, to come enjoy a hot breakfast with fellow parishioners, and our neighbors living on the streets or in area shelters, on Sunday, December 31, 8:00-9:00 a.m. Want to help out? Visit the sign-up sheet, here.


Yoga changes in 2018: Monday yoga is no longer offered, but Margaret Culbertson is adding a third Wednesday to her schedule - teaching on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays in January at 9:30 a.m.  Anyone who wishes to attend should RSVP to by noon on Tuesday before each class so attendance/potential conflicts can be determined.


The Bad Girls Book Club January meeting will be on Monday, January 15 and the selection is The Bone Lady by Mary Manhein, world renowned forensic anthropologist, and we are very excited to announce that Ms. Manhein will be joining us for the evening to discuss her book! We meet at La Madeleine's on Jefferson at Old Hammond Hwy. Let Monica Murphy know you'll be attending via email, or text to 225-335-3572.

Gift Wrapping

The EYC will be wrapping Christmas presents for parishioners in the parlor during Sunday school hour and after the 10:30 service. We will have gift wrap and gift tags available, or some parishioners will bring their own. This outreach is free to the church, but we'll accept donations to go toward summer mission trips. Show off your mad skillz with paper, ribbon, and scissors!


Thursday, December 21 -- EYC Movie Night -- Join us from 6:00-7:30 in the EYC room for dinner and a Christmas movie! 


Student help is needed during the holidays filling We Care lunch bags - a simple procedure is posted in the We Care closet (first door to right on entry to the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center). Good holiday hours are 11:30-12:30 just about any weekday! (Not good days: Wednesday, December 20; Friday, December 22; or Monday-Tuesday, December 25-26.) Please email to sign up to help over the holidays!


January 7: Confirmation Information meeting at 10:00 a.m. in the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center. Youth interested in May 2018 confirmation at the bishop's visit, along with their parents/adults, should plan to attend for class schedule, requirements, and additional information.

The 2018 United Thank Offering Grant Application is now available.  All forms and information necessary for the completion of a United Thank Offering Grant can be found by clicking here. Applications are due to Bishop Morris K. Thompson's office by Monday, February 19 at 5:00 p.m. Email your completed application to Cassandra Reiger at UTO Thank Offering grants are awarded to support mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and in invited Provinces of the Anglican Communion in the developing world.
