Holy Eucharist with the Day School returns this morning, Friday, August 25 at 8:15 a.m., in the church. All are welcome to attend this joyful service with music and readings led by our Day School students.

Open meetings of AA are held daily at noon in the Activities Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center.

Meditative Yoga meets next on Monday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. These free classes are held on the first and second Mondays of each month, 11:00-12:30; and, on the third and fourth Wednesdays from 9:30-11:00 a.m., in the CSF Atrium on the third floor of the Ministries Center. The gentle poses used are accessible to most and everyone is invited to attend.

Wednesdays at noon: A service of Holy Eucharist with opportunity for healing prayers is held each week in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles. This quiet, mid-week service lasts about thirty minutes.

We will be hosting the 180th Diocesan Convention at St. James on Friday and Saturday, November 3 and 4, 2017. Many volunteers will be needed to help with registration, greeting and offering welcome to visitors, campus directions, and more. Denise Allen is leading our planning committee and will be asking for volunteers at the Ministries Fair, next Sunday. If you already know you'd like to be involved, email Denise, letting her know which or both days you're available (or maybe behind the scenes), and what area you're interested in.

St. James Artists Guild

St. James Artists Guild invites practicing artists at St. James to consider exhibiting in two annual shows at St. James Episcopal Church.

The next show is the holiday show, with setup on Friday, November 10 and running November 12 through December 3. Visit with Nancy Jo Poirrier at the Ministries Fair on Sunday, August 27, or

New Pastoral Care Ministries

If you might be interested in visiting shut-ins once every other month as part of your ministry at St. James, Fr. Ralph Howe would like to talk to you! Our licensed Eucharistic Visitors take communion to those who cannot get out, but there are plenty of others to be seen! You can sign up at the Ministries Fair this Sunday, August 27.

He is also creating a list of people who would be willing to give Sunday church rides to those who no longer drive. Those getting rides would need to be ambulatory, and Sunday Drivers would commit to driving once a month.

Bishop Thompson is interested in creating ways to address the issue of Coastal Erosion in and to the Diocese of Louisiana. If you are interested in environmental issues, please let Fr. Ralph know. He will be in further contact with Bishop Thompson about this project.

Please visit the Pastoral Care Ministries area at the fair, next Sunday, August 27, where you can learn more about these and other ministries, and fill in that piece of the puzzle! Or, email Fr. Ralph using the link, below.

Every baptized person is called to ministry. Education for Ministry (EfM) is a unique four-year program of small-group study that provides people with the education to carry out that ministry.

The purpose of EfM is to help the faithful encounter the breadth and depth of the Christian tradition and to connect it with their life experience by engaging together in study, prayer and reflection. Each of the four years of EfM study is comprised of 36 weekly sessions during the nine--month academic year, September through May

An EfM group led by Randy Garrett and Marsha Wade meets in the third floor lounge in the Ministries Center on Thursdays from 5:00 'til 7:00 p.m. There are no prerequisites of study.

Since its founding in 1975, EfM has assisted more than 80,000 participants worldwide in discovering and nurturing their call to Christian service.

During the service of confirmation we ask God to "Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at Baptism. Send them forth in the power of the Spirit to perform the service you set before them." EfM offers an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service.

For more information about EfM or to register, contact:

Randy Garrett or phone 225-229-5044, or, Marsha Wade or phone 225-802-8067.

EfM Grads Group

If you have graduated from the four-year program of Education for Ministry offered by The University School of the South at Sewanee, you are invited to join us on the third Thursday of the month from noon 'til 1:30 p.m. for a time of spiritual feeding in the style practiced in our Education for Ministry groups. This is a drop-in group, for you to come when you can. Brown bag lunches welcome; occasionally, a host may provide a light lunch. A monthly meeting announcement/reminder is sent via email; please let us know if you will be able to attend.

One of the group will volunteer to present a brief lesson at each meeting, followed by a hearty group discussion.

Any format and topic may be discussed. The most important thing is that we get to use our theological reflection skills, our lifetime experiences, our knowledge of the Bible and tradition to hold a rich discussion about the chosen subject, following the tradition learned during our time in EfM.

The fall 2017 semester meetings begin Thursday, September 21.

For more information, or to share contact info for other EfM grads who might like to join us, contact Nancy Jo Poirrier, or (h) 225-926-1679; (cell) 225-603.-7921.
