Sunday's Services
  • 7:30 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite I in the church
    Associate Vestry breakfast is served in the Day School Cafeteria from 8:30 until 10:00 a.m.
  • 10:30 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite II in church with Treble Choir, Adult Choir, and the As You Are service musicians
  • 5:00 p.m. - Holy Eucharist, Rite II in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles
Ballots for Vestry and Associate Vestry will be distributed only at the 7:30 and 10:30 services.

Sunday Education and Events
  • 8:30-12:30 - Our professionally-staffed nursery is an option for children six weeks to four years old as you worship or attend the Annual Parish meeting.
  • 8:30 a.m. - Associate Vestry Annual Parish Breakfast is served in the Day School cafeteria until 10:00 a.m. Please come by and enjoy a healthy start to your day with some great parish fellowship!
  • Sunday morning classes are suspended for the Annual Meeting.
  • Flamingos and Spanish Town parade parking passes will be available in Bishops Hall after the Annual Meeting. Very few spots are left for flocking before Mardi Gras. Reservations are first-come, first-served! Order a flocking or parking pass online!
  • 5:00 p.m. - EKC (Episcopal Kids Community - for those in third through fifth grades) will be talking about all the different ways people pray and communicate with God. We’ve got a lot of fun activities planned, and Marvin hopes to see you at 5:00 p.m. in the Youth Room on the first floor of the Ministries Center!
  • 6:00 p.m. - Centering Prayer is held in the CSF Suite on the third floor of the Ministries Center. All interested are invited to join this time of stillness in God's presence.
Youth Confirmation: Register Now!
Bishop Thompson will be at St. James on April 24 to confirm young people prepared through the iConfirm series. Marvin McLennon is starting class on Lent 1: February 14, and classes will continue each Sunday (except Palm and Easter Sundays) from 10:00 a.m. through the 11:00 a.m. service. If you or a teen you know is interested in being confirmed, contact Marvin for information and/or to register by January 31.

Parish Meeting & Breakfast

The 2016 St. James Episcopal Church Annual Parish Meeting will be held is this Sunday, January 24, 2016, with voting at the 7:30 and COMBINED 10:30 services.


The Associate Vestry invites you to the Parish Pancake Breakfast in the Day School Cafeteria. They'll be serving up a great breakfast from 8:30 until 10:00 a.m.

2016 Trinity Theological Conference: Today and Saturday
In the words of theologian Gustavo Gutièrrez, “All injustice is a breach with God.” TI2016 brings action-oriented theologians and thought leaders together to provide better understanding, inspiration, and ideas you can use in your community to make a positive impact. The conference will be simulcast in the CSF Atrium at St. James beginning this morning, and continues tomorrow, Saturday, January 23 with facilitated discussion groups. Registration is free, but required so that proper arrangements for your presence and dialogue groups can be made. Just send us an email to let us know you're coming!
Joan of Arc Study Group

Helen Campbell hosts the next gathering of the Joan of Arc study group, on Wednesday, February 3, at noon. Margaret Culbertson will present the lesson on The Parable of the Sower, from Matthew 25:1-13. Contact Nina Broyles for more information on the Joan of Arc study group.

The next gathering is Monday, February 15, and The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende is our scheduled book selection.

The March book selection is Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, and we'll be meeting on Monday, March 21.

We meet at 6:00 p.m. at La Madeleine's on Jefferson at Old Hammond Hwy. R.s.v.p. to Monica, below, and don't forget to bring a sweater!


Mom-to-Mom Meets Thursday, January 28

The Mom to Mom Group meeting will be Thursday, January 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall parlor. Contact Mary Boutwell for more information, and to reserve child care.

A DIALOGUE WITH MUSLIMS: FACT, FICTION, and FAITH will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2016, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at Broadmoor United Methodist Church at 10230 Mollylea Drive.

What do Muslims believe? What are misconceptions about Islam?

Join the conversation with local Muslims who are part of the Baton Rouge community. This event will conclude with prayers for peace, understanding, kindness, and compassion. Visit the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge website for more information.

Help us finalize Lenten Wednesday preparations

An exciting menu of worship, soup-and-salad dinner, and educational options for all ages on Wednesday evenings in Lent is in the works. The evening begins with Holy Eucharist at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner, then class options for adults, as well as programs for children and youth, all ending by 7:15 p.m.


Please complete our online survey (or by paper, this Sunday, January 24) indicating your interest in attending and which programs you are interested in attending. If you complete the form online, there is no need for you to complete a paper form this Sunday unless your information has changed.

Camp Hardtner Summer Registration

The online information for the Summer Camping Season at Hardtner is now up and running. It can be viewed at

We are currently accepting applications for the Summer Permanent Camping Staff. These are paid positions and include: Head Counselor, Driver, and cabin counselors. Interviews for these positions begin January 9. If you know someone who would like to apply, is at least 19 years of age, is good with young people, works very well with others and exhibits a commitment to Christ, please encourage that person to apply.

Rreservations for the summer camping season opened January 5 and campers may register through the Harder web page. Early registration is recommended. There is some scholarship aid available for those who qualify.

Camp Hardtner
EDoLA Young Adults Mardi Gras Tailgate Party

Look for us on the neutral ground near the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Seventh Street, near Christ Church Cathedral, New Orleans.

Lunch will be provided but BYOB and bring snacks to share. This event is co-hosted by the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana and Trinity Episcopal Church, New Orleans.
